My Guest Room

March 10th, 2009 by CoolThings

I bought an inflatable mattress on a whim. It was just one of those things that I thought I should have “just in case”. As I’ve mentioned before, I have a small house and I have no need for a guest room, but I wanted to be able to accommodate a guest if needed. This Aerobed (pictured above) has been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It inflates and deflates in no time at all, and is so comfortable that I slept like a baby all night long (yeah, I slept on it - I was curious). It folds away nicely when not in use and comes with a carrying case if I ever wanted to take it with me anywhere. I’ve had a few friends and family members who have stayed the night and had no complaints about their “sleeping quarters” (my living room). My mom even wanted to buy one for her house - even though she has two guests rooms - she just likes how comfortable it is.

I got mine at SmartBargains.com, but they are sold all over the place. I highly recommend getting one if your home doesn’t have a lot of space. It’s an instant guest room in under a minute!

Decor that Makes you Spin

February 16th, 2009 by CoolThings

Check out what I found late one night while I was aimlessly surfing the net! I love the idea of a rotating book shelf.

Want to change the decor of your room? Just spin it to a new side!

Need a quick clean up? Stash the mess on one side and spin it out of sight!

Just want a cool place to keep your books and knick knacks? Sit back and admire.

Inmod.com has this great piece and one day I’ll get it … one happy day.

Yes, It is a Vase

February 2nd, 2009 by CoolThings

If you have read my blog before, you already know that I love pieces that look great even when they are not being used. For example, I purchased these lovely, mosaic vases at target.com with no intention of ever putting anything in them. I used one as a bookend and the other as an accent on my sofa table. Then, one day a friend, who I have not seen in a while, paid me a surprise visit and brought flowers as a gift. I don’t normally keep flowers in my house becasue my two cats keep mistaking the flowers for their afternoon snack, so I didn’t have a flower vase handy - or so I thought. I took one of my mosaic vases (the ones that I don’t use as vases), and discovered that they look just as amazing with flowers in them! Imagine that!

I love wildlife about as much as I love to decorate and now I have found a fantastic was to enjoy both! I have discovered fabulous, animal-shaped, throw pillows by Fauna at designpublic.com. They are a wonderful way to have as many animals as I want without the mess. With just about any animal from cats and dogs to zebras and elephants, you can give any room a wild style that is adorable at the same time. They are also the perfect size for kids to hug and love just like their favorite stuffed animals. Made with 100% cotton and water-based ink they are just $24 a pop, making it affordable for you to enjoy the wild life.
